You won’t believe the list of NHL players getting paid under Kotkaniemi

After I saw this list, I didn't understand why Carolina offered Kotkaniemi so much money? Did they really need to do that? They couldn't just sign a Zach Parise on a short term or a Zach Hyman on a long term.
