Tensions erupted when Kane's estranged wife claimed he bet on his own games and sought to lose to gamble profit. Kane's colleagues reportedly want him to leave the squad in 2021-22, and management has tried to trade him, but no suitors have come forward.
According to Sharks source Kevin Kurz for The Athletic, any thought of moving him now is absurd, especially with four years remaining on his contract. Kane has a Sharks contract through 2024-25. His 2018 seven-year agreement with San Jose contains a $7 million cap hit.
The Sharks may waive Kane, not assign him to their AHL team, and buy out his contract next summer. But that would mean more dead cap space, which is undesirable.
