The National Hockey League has finally responded to the Colorado Avalanche's controversial overtime goal in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night.

After the game yesterday, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper had six players on the ice for the Avalanche.

Here is the NHL's reaction:

A situation of too many players on the ice is a judgment that can be called by any of the four officials present on the ice. After the game, the Hockey Operations Department meets with the officials as they do after every game. With respect to the winning goal, all four officials stated that they did not see too many players on the ice. A situation like this cannot be challenged by the opposing team and is not reviewable on the game by a video replay.
