It was a very odd end to a game last night between the Chicago Blackhawks and Montreal Canadiens in the United Center. With the scored tied 2-2 they went to overtime, that's when Blackhawks Philipp Kurashev and Canadiens Mike Hoffman crashed into Canadiens goaltender Samuel Montembeault and knocked the net off. That's when things got crazy, the puck appears to go in, but the net was knocked off it's moorings.
Many thought maybe a Canadiens penalty or just blow the play dead like others we seen like this. However that didn't happen the referees reviewed the play. After a long delay they called it a goal, but then said it was going to be challenged for being offside, which even the commentary team said "looks offside this one won't count."
The ruling was a good goal and Kurashev was ruled to have possession of the puck while entering the zone and in turn was ruled a goal.
The Canadiens we're obviously unhappy with this ending, who can't seem to find a win and are now dead last in the entire NHL with a 7-24-5 record. There last win was December 16th 2021 a 3-2 shoot-out win vs the Philadelphia Flyers.
The bright side if you can call it that is they will face the 31st place Arizona Coyotes, so if there's a chance to end this 5 game losing streak it is on Monday.
