Teams have contacted former head coach Barry Trotz
Barry Trotz is one of the greatest coaches in NHL history. His record of 914-670-168-60 (60 being ties) gives him a .567 win percentage. He has coached some truly terrible teams over his years, so this is incredibly impressive.
He's won a Stanley Cup - with the Washington Capitals in 2018, and he's won the Jack Adams award twice; in 2016 and 2019.
Obviously, when the New York Islanders fired him in May, Trotz immediately found himself at the top of the coaching carousel of the NHL. Ultimately, however, he opted not to coach for this season.
Now, Trotz has spoken out regarding his coaching career.
In an interview with Daren Millard of The Chirp, Trotz was candid about the teams that have contacted him, but made his position on this season quite clear.
«I don't know yet,» said Trotz. «I'm deciding. There's a couple teams that reached out and I said I'm not there yet. I'm probably going to take the rest of the year off and see where I am. It's still a part of me but I'm going to continue to stay true to myself and my family right now.»
If he does choose to return, he'll be in very high demand, but if he doesn't, he'll still be regarded as one of the greatest bench bosses in NHL history.
