Detroit Red Wings Executive Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced today that the team has named Derek Lalonde as the 28th head coach in franchise history.

Lalonde has an impressive track record. Since the 2018-2019 season, he has been an assistant to Jon Cooper and just prior to that, he worked as the head coach of the Iowa Wild in the American League from 2016-2018.

He also spent the previous two seasons in the East Coast League with the Toledo Walleye.
