An anonymous scout has spoken out about the trade sending Artturi Lehkonen to Colorado in return for a second round pick and Justin Barron.
Alexandre Gascon of Radio-Canada has collected his comments.
"I was talking with my assistant manager and the word around the league was that the Avalanche had paid a lot of money for Lehkonen's services."
Sakic was targeting Claude Giroux. Since the Franco-Ontarian did not want to play in Colorado, the Avalanche GM turned to Lehkonen.
Moreover, he did not even negotiate.
"Colorado wanted to trade their second round pick and Barron for other players. They were trying and trying. At one point, they went to Lehkonen. They called and said, 'Here's what we got.' It wasn't even Montreal that asked for it ... [Kent] Hughes said, 'Go,'" the scout added
It will be interesting to see who comes out on top of this trade in a few years!
