When he appeared on BPM Sports yesterday, RDS journalist and analyst François Gagnon had a lot to say about Shane Wright's attitude after he scored his goal against the Montreal Canadiens, and he was quick to criticize him.
While some had already commented negatively on the fact that Wright had a big stamped smile on his face after his team's loss, Gagnon added a layer of his own:
"I'm glad the Habs didn't draft Shane Wright." - François Gagnon
The reporter picked on Wright for his attitude, especially after the kid scored his famous first NHL goal.
Gagnon elaborates on his negative comments, as he noticed that after his goal, Wright was no longer playing at 100% and was strangely much less involved in the game, as if scoring his goal was enough for him and winning wasn't important anymore. Did you notice the same thing he did?
François Gagnon noted a drop in intensity from Shane Wright after the Kraken striker's goal yesterday.
According to him, this is a confirmation that the Habs made the right choice not to draft him!" - BPM Sports
Obviously, one game doesn't make a career and it can be quite normal for an 18-year-old with little experience and possibly maturity to have a dip after the adrenaline boost of his first goal, especially against the Tricolore. It's possible that this had an impact on his involvement afterwards.
That said, I wouldn't go as far as to say right now that the Habs did the right thing by not drafting Wright because of his noticeable lack of involvement after his first career emotional goal, especially against the team that ignored him at No. 1 to boot.
Do you agree with François Gagnon?
