There are some very controversial players in the NHL. Often, it is due to off-ice issues, but in some cases, it is due to aggravating on-ice tactics.

Matthew Tkachuk is one of these controversial players. While he has shown he can score 40 goals, and put up 100 points in a season, he is more known for his aggressive style of game.
In a game against the New Jersey Devils, Tkachuk made one of his dirtiest plays yet. When Tomas Tatar scored a late empty net deciding goal, Tkachuk went after Devils captain Nico Hischier.
This wasn't a random act, however, as Hischier injured Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov in a prior game. Tkachuk waiting weeks to act made NHL insider Larry Brooks speak some particular words to Tkachuk:
Of course not. While a number of his teammates took multiple cheap shots against Hischier throughout the remainder of that game, Tkachuk waited until Tomas Tatar scored an empty-netter with 39.1 seconds to go in the rematch at Sunrise on Dec. 21 to pull his weasel act and jump Hischier from behind in a scrum.
Clearly Brooks expects players to be a bit more respectful to each other. While that may not be the nature of the sport, Tkachuk takes it too far at times.
