Marc Bergevin, the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, has shifted his focus away from the Stanley Cup Final and toward the Seattle Kraken expansion draught. The Canadiens are one of the clubs most concerned about the Kraken's pick, as goaltender Jake Allen might be lost. Bergevin appears to be taking a proactive approach.
« Friedman on 31 Thoughts says Canadiens looking to see if they can avoid losing Jake Allen for nothing. Will be hard to trade goalies since every team has one goalie they're protecting, but they're looking to see if that's possible.»
Allen is a fantastic target for the Kraken because he's signed for two more seasons at only $2.87 million per season and had a good season for Montreal last year, playing more than Carey Price during the regular season. He's a 1-B/2, but pair him with Braden Holtby of the Vancouver Canucks, and the expansion Kraken have two Stanley Cup-winning goaltenders on their team from the start. That's a good start, but Bergevin might sabotage all they've planned.
