Former Montreal Canadiens equipment manager Pierre Gervais spoke with Mario Langlois on 98.5 FM's Les amateurs de sports.
Traded last week, Shea Weber has made an impression on Pierre Gervais and he wanted to talk about his experience with the big defenceman.
Gervais notably returned to the Canadiens' loss in the Stanley Cup final and the captain's state of health.
He was really banged up. I've rarely seen a guy in so much pain after a loss. I saw him in a lot of pain, but you could tell it was really significant for him. I didn't know where his career was going to go, maybe he knew more, he suffered that guy. He suffered. Not nearly so much. Especially at his age.
He was such an extraordinary guy. I had been around him a little bit at the Olympics and more in depth with the Canadiens. He's a guy who has a presence, who looks you in the eye. He's a warrior, he's respectful. Everybody loves him. Shea, it's going to be hard to replace. In the immediate future, you can't find his replacement." - Pierre Gervais
In conclusion, Gervais also mentioned that you shouldn't give the role of captain of the Habs to a young player if he isn't ready.
