According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the New Jersey Devils and Montreal Canadiens are currently working on trading the first two picks of the draft.
You read that correctly.
« Pierre Lebrun mentioning that New Jersey contacted Montreal to move up a selection (from the 2nd pick to the 1st pick overall) to take Slafkovsky is completely consistent with what I've heard from my sources, regarding the Devils preferring Slaf to Wright. Rumour has it that MTL likes Slaf more too, though." - Grant McCagg, former Habs scout
Basically, the Habs really like Slafkovsky, but also Wright. Conversely, the Devils already have their centre line for the future with Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes and Pavel Zacha. That's why they absolutely want the Slovakian.
It will be interesting to see what the Devils could give in addition, to alternate the choices.
