Kent Hughes would have been involved in a historic deal with the Oilers this summer
As my GoHabsGo colleague Jean-Benoît Gagné reports, the renowned Elliotte Friedman went on a big rant about the Montreal Canadiens in his latest edition of his 32 Thoughts podcast.
According to his information, Kent Hughes was very involved in the John Klingberg file this summer and in addition to signing him, he could have traded him right away.
Here's that explanation:
« Before he ended up in Anaheim, I believe the Oilers were looking at John Klingberg and tried to do something with another team, potentially Montreal. Klingberg would have signed in Montreal and then been traded to Edmonton. The Canadiens would have held back some salary and the Oilers would have offered a sweet deal in return plus a player or two. »
This would have been unheard of, as no player signed a contract to be traded directly afterwards.
