As we reported this morning, the Montreal Canadiens have signed defenceman Logan Mailloux to a three-year entry-level contract.
This signing is not a unanimous one in the hockey world, especially with the scandal that has surrounded Hockey Canada for the past few months.
However, it's time to leave the past behind and talk about hockey. We are talking about a young man who made a serious mistake, but who has worked hard on himself and has a bright future in hockey. Kent Hughes was also keen to explain why he signed Mailloux:
"It's obviously a decision that we've thought about in depth. Having Logan around our team members and hockey operations staff for much of the summer has allowed us to get to know and like him better. Logan has the opportunity to become a positive change agent and we will work to support him in any effort to do so. He recognises the impact of his actions and of course the process continues." - Kent Hughes
Obviously, regardless of what people outside the team think, Kent Hughes and the entire Habs organization are the best judge of whether Logan was ready to sign a deal. We're confident they made the right choice.
