Today, Ryan McDonagh was traded from the Lightning to the Nashville Predators, in exchange for defenseman Philippe Myers and 23-year-old forward Grant Mismash.

As my colleague Keven Mawn of Fanadiens.com reports, this deal will hurt Kent Hughes, who has been looking to trade Jeff Petry for several months.

With the return Julien BriseBois got for McDonagh, it's certain that Kent Hughes won't have much more. Why not? Because the two players are very similar in terms of contract and also, in terms of age.

Petry: 34 years, 3 years at $6.25 million

McDonagh: 33 years, 4 years at $6.7 million

Considering Kent Hughes won't let Petry go for peanuts, all indications are that he shouldn't be traded anytime soon, unless Hughes lowers his expectations, as Brewer did to free up space under the payroll.
