The Florida Panthers have announced that centre Aleksander Barkov will miss tonight's game against the Boston Bruins.
Barkov was injured late in the first period of the game against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. He was forced to return to the dressing room after being hit by Nico Hischier's stick on the face-off.
"Barkov is day-to-day, which is really positive for us. It could have been a long-term injury" - Paul Maurice
Updates from Coach Maurice after skate:
- Aleksander Barkov is day-to-day
- Anton Lundell is getting closer
- Radko Gudas will be a game-time decision
- Colin White will return tonight
Spencer Knight will be in net.- Florida Panthers (@FlaPanthers) December 19, 2022
The injury could be beneficial for the Habs, who own the Panthers' first round pick in the upcoming draft.
Barkov has 22 points, including six goals in 25 games this season.

I certainly hope @NHLPlayerSafety is going to be taking a serious look at Nico Hischier's dirty play, where he's clearly attempting to insult Barkov. It was a punk move, and it deserves a suspension. @nhl @FlaPanthers pic.twitter.com/vq1K7cGNAF- Barry Rothman (@BarryARothman) December 18, 2022
