The reigning Vezina Trophy winner made it clear he believes in the group in front of him, in particular the core of the team, and believes they are very close to achieving greatness.
«Nothing that happened this year was a fluke,» Hellebuyck said. «We're very close to being able to make runs and being a dynasty.»
While the Jets were able to sweep the Edmonton Oilers in the opening round of the playoffs, they went on to have the same thing done to them versus the Habs. It certainly isn't on Hellebuyck, who was fantastic in the opening series and hung out to dry often in the second round. Despite most recognizing his greatness, however, not many are buying into the Jets being a dynasty anytime soon.
Up front, the Jets do have some great pieces in guys like Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers, Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler. However, their blueline needs a significant upgrade before they are ready to do any type of damage in the postseason. If they are able to address this need in the offseason, then perhaps they will turn into more of a contender, but a dynasty still feels like a major stretch.
