With the expansion draft coming up (July 21), general managers are preparing to lose as little as possible and/or get a big contract with a big bonus. In the case of the Montreal Canadiens, Jake Allen is rumored to be the potential pick for Ron Francis (Seattle Kraken), which would be a big deal for the 32nd ranked franchise in the National League. On the other hand, Bergevin certainly doesn't want to lose the services of the goalie who helped him make the playoffs.

According to the "harvest" of information from the renowned Elliotte Friedman, Bergevin would not want to lose for nothing the one he acquired on September 2, 2020 in order to properly support Carey Price: "One of the names I'm starting to hear quite a bit is that Montreal does not want to lose Jake Allen potentially for nothing (in the expansion draft)."

Teams like Buffalo, Edmonton, Detroit and San Jose could be potential destinations for Allen, instead of being selected by the Kraken. If this becomes the scenario chosen by Marc Bergevin, would Cayden Primeau become Carey Price's backup, who doesn't have Allen's experience?
