The Calgary Flames made some big moves last Thursday. First by trading a conditional first-round pick in 2025 and Sean Monahan to Montreal for peanuts. Second, they signed the excellent Nazem Kadri for seven seasons at $7M a year.
By the way, regarding this trade, Flames GM Brad Treliving reacted and really, he wasn't happy about letting his first round pick go.
Brad Treliving, on having to give a first-round pick to Montreal: "I absolutely hated having to do that, but we didn't have room (on the payroll), we were handcuffed and we had to free up money very quickly."
- Remarks reported by Eric Engels
Treliving went on to confide that he had to move quickly to avoid missing out on Kadri and Kent Hughes was his only short-term option.
