On Thursday, fans responded angrily to Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice defending forward Mark Scheifele, stating the center's hit on Montreal Canadiens winger Jake Evans was "heavy," but "clean."

«For me, the feet are on the ice, the arms are tucked in and it's a body contact,» he explained to reporters in the team's off-day Zoom call. «That's the way I see it.»

As you may recall, Scheifele received a four-game suspension for charging the Habs' Jake Evans when he was scoring an empty-net goal to seal a 5-3 victory. But, just seconds after giving his club a two-goal lead, he was brought down by the Jets' star forward on a harsh, high, and unexpected hit.
Prior to Game 2, Maurice met with the media after practice on Friday and made a fool of himself by claiming that Scheifele would only get two games.
That's the same guy who said the hit was clean before! So, two games for a clean hit, Paul?
Fans soon caught up on his perplexing remarks and have been criticizing the head coach on social media since the press conference ended.
Scheifele did speak to reporters as well, stating he was shocked with the length of the suspension. Scheifele issues an official statement and confesses that his family has been harassed
«It's pretty gross to see,» Scheifele said. «My parents are the salt of the earth. For my parents to get hate like that, it's awful.»
