A bright future for this club of rising stars and legendary veterans has been put on hold for the time being, and any players who don't fit into Montreal's long-term ambitions will be available for rental elsewhere.
Mike Hoffman, who has just been in Montreal since last summer, fits the bill.
After missing the first month of the season due to injury, he has 6 goals and 11 points in 25 games, but the Habs might utilise him to enhance their prospect inventory heading into a very good 2022 Draft. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Penguins' powerplay continues to be a source of frustration.
They now rank 20th in the league with a 17.6% powerplay success rate. Upgrading the special teams of a team eying for the President's Trophy would go a long way toward increasing their postseason chances.
Hoffman is a powerplay expert who has made a career out of it in the NHL. Adding him to the mix would address one of the Penguins' few problems this season.
