Interestingly, media reports stated that the Maple Leafs were in talks with the Blackhawks to acquire Fleury before he was traded to the Wild. The Leafs wanted Fleury and forward Brandon Hagel in exchange for Petr Mrazek, Matthew Knies, and a first round pick, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
When questioned why the deal never happened, Leafs GM Kyle Dubas expressed his displeasure with the leak and called on Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson to clarify.
«I'm disappointed that it's public,» Dubas told Dreger. «I'm not condemning you; I've just never experienced that kind of public disclosure before. «I think you should contact Kyle Davidson about his availability in Chicago.»
Davidson responded to Dubas by saying he'll look into it. (Dubas') remarks will be addressed in private with Kyle.
This suggests to me that the leak came from Davidson's staff, not him. Maybe a Dubas staffer leaked it? Dreger is a well-connected reporter within both groups, so it's possible he reported on either team's information.
