There's no question that hockey culture isn't where it needs to be.

While efforts are going in the right direction, recent events, such as Ivan Provorov's refusal to wear the pride warmup jersey in Philadelphia, which enabled the New York Rangers to cancel their pride day completely are harsh insights into where hockey truly stands.

Brian Burke is a leader in the hockey world when it comes to bringing the sport to pride communities. His late son Brendan was gay, which has fuelled Burke's passion for this effort.

He said this last week to address the recent anti-pride events in the NHL:

I would view this as a much bigger setback if I didn't view it as we're still going the right way,'» Burke said in an interview with The Athletic. «In other words: As disappointed as I am, it's important that people realize these are setbacks of a minor nature, in my view, in terms of where we are, versus where we were 12 years ago, and I don't think anyone should lose sight of that.

Today, Burke announced that he would be donating $100 for every goal scored at the All-Star game to the You Can Play charity, and $200 for every goal scored by representative Sidney Crosby.

He encourages you to choose the charity of your choice and an amount you can afford and do the same.

Brian Burke is truly a hero in this industry.
