Many fans, especially those in Toronto who saw Maple Leafs captain John Tavares being carried off the ice on a stretcher following a collision early in the first-round playoff matchup with the Montreal Canadiens, might be surprised by this. It was an unintentional collision: Tavares collided with Habs defender Ben Chariot, fell to the ice defenceless, and was struck by forward Corey Perry's knee. Before he was taken away, trainers and paramedics from both teams raced to the ice and attended to the veteran forward. For several minutes, the game was paused. The Canadiens won this game to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
On Friday morning, ahead of Game 4 between the Washington Capitals and the Boston Bruins, Bard Marchand, who is known for getting under the skin of his rivals, including the Maple Leafs, commented on Tavares' injury.
