John Tavares has been on the mind of a lot of hockey fans, whether they cheer for the Toronto Maple Leafs or not, since he left Thursday night's game against the Montreal Canadiens following a horrific accident. Tavares was hit by the Habs' Ben Chiarot and, after falling to the ice, took Corey Perry's knee to the head. Perry tried to get out of the way but was moving too fast. Tavares was brought to hospital last night where he was said to be conscious. Friday, the Toronto Maple Leafs released the following update:
"Toronto Maple Leafs Captain John Tavares has been discharged from the hospital this morning. He was thoroughly examined and assessed by the neurosurgical team at St. Michael's Hospital and the club's medical director. He was kept overnight for observation and is now resting at home under the care and supervision of team physicians. Tavares will be out indefinitely."
It's not likely we'll see Tavares back in the series between the Habs and Leafs, or even this year's playoffs, regardless of how far the Leafs make it. However, it's great to hear he's doing well and recovering at home.
