Former Olympic Gold medal winner Carey price was expected to be Team Canada's starter if he was healthy to play, that was before the NHL dropped out of the Beijing 2022 Olympics due to the Covid19 pandemic.
Blues GM, Doug Armstrong, was Team Canada's GM and stated that Price was his clear cut #1 goalie there was no doubt if he was healthy he was the clear cut starter.
«I personally had one conversation with him and it was more just, Take your time. We're not going anywhere. What you've accomplished in your career and what you've accomplished in the playoffs indicate that you're the alpha male for Hockey Canada goaltending. And we'll give you as much time as needed. We support you in any way on and off the ice.' And left it at that,» said Armstrong.
