It essentially crushed all hope Patrick Kane had.
When the New York Rangers acquired Vladimir Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues, they addressed their team need of a feisty scoring winger. The cap reality and the assets spent essentially shut out the likelihood that Patrick Kane would go to New York.
Showtime and the Rangers have been connected for years, ever since the possibility of a trade started to exist. This got to the point where it was hard to imagine Kane playing elsewhere done deadline time. It seems this thought became pervasive for Kane as well, as he shared the immeasurable disappointment over the trade that never was, and the acquisition of Tarasenko.
"It's not like the happiest I've been to hear about a trade. ... If things are going to happen, that was a team I was definitely looking at. It seems like they kind of filled their void and went ahead and made a deal."

Due to new health issues, it's unknown if Kane will be traded at all. But, if he is, we're all but sure it won't be to Manhattan.
