BREAKING: Gary Bettman And The NHL Have Made A Decision On The Olympics
The NHL and the Olympic games have had a complex partnership in the past several years. NHL players have not been a part of the Olympics since the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Now the NHL and Gary Bettman have put out a statement about the NHL's participation in future Olympic Games.
NHL Returns To The Olympics
The NHL and Gary Bettman announced today that they are working with the NHLPA to create an international competition to be held in February of 2025.
The NHL could see its players returning to the Olympic stage for the first time in over a decade. After missing out on both the 2018 and 2022 Olympics, the top brass at the NHL and NHLPA appear to be working together to send their talent to the 2026 games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy
This will then lead to a regular rotation of Olympic Participation and the World Cup of Hockey in the even years to follow.
Commissioner Bill Daly had this to say when asked about the return to international play plan:
"So if we do a '25 international tournament, we do the '26 Olympics, the '28 World Cup of Hockey, the '30 Olympics, the '32 World Cup of Hockey, and so on," Daly said. "That's the goal."
This news will be music to hockey fan's ears all over the world. Hockey has been clamoring for best-on-best competition for so many years since losing out on the NHL players in the Olympics. Now we not only get the Olympics a consistent World Cup of Hockey format as well.
