In case you missed it, the City of Glendale, Arizona informed the Arizona Coyotes that their joint lease arrangement for the Gila River Arena will terminate after the 2021-22 NHL season.
Nobody knows what happens next. The club may temporarily relocate to the 5,000-seat Arizona State University arena until a new facility is built in neighbouring Tempe. Also, they may return to the Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix. It was declared unsuitable for hockey in 2009, prompting the team's relocation to Glendale.
Is anyone else sick of it?
The Coyotes seem to be in the news every 18 months or so. They've had many owners, relocated stadiums and cities, and continue to lose money year after year. Oh, and their team stinks. The fact is, this team hasn't made a profit since 1991... when it was still in Winnipeg. The NHL and commissioner Gary Bettman continue to support the Coyotes despite the fact that hockey in the Arizona desert is a flop.
