Now 43 years old, Joe Thornton has yet to sign an NHL contract. Limited to 78 games in the last two seasons with the Maple Leafs and the Panthers, Jumbo Joe has returned to live in San Jose at last news, even if he trains with some Sharks players.
The door is now open as to whether a final season with the Sharks is a possibility, and here's a good hint about Thornton's future from team GM Mike Grier:
« Joe Thornton is not in the final lineup at training camp, but he's definitely someone I want around the team." - Mike Grier

The fact that he is not in the training camp roster, despite returning to San Jose and working out with some of the players, speaks volumes about a potential return. However, Thornton could well announce his retirement and get a job immediately with the Sharks.
To be continued...
In your opinion, has Joe Thornton played his last career NHL game?
