Goalie Henrik Lundqvist was a free agent when free agency began.

In January, Lundqvist had open heart surgery and missed the entire 2017-18 season. He signed a one-year deal with the Washington Capitals for 2020-21 after the New York Rangers bought him out, but he never played for the Caps. He kept fans updated on his progress and looked great in his post-surgery photos. But he can't sign a contract until he gets medical clearance, it was revealed at the end of July.
On Tuesday, the King himself posted a picture of his pads, indicating he was back at it. This could mean he's close to returning to the ice.
So he'd be a free agent and could sign anywhere.
Lundqvist has a 2.43 goals-against average and a.918 save percentage in 15 NHL seasons, all with the Rangers. He's been an All-Star twice and won the Vezina Trophy in 2011-12.
Fans are wishing for Lundqvist's return to New York City as he awaits medical clearance. Can he rejoin the Blue Shirts?
We can't say, but we hope he gets another NHL shot in 2021-22.
