The Habs are having an exceptional season for a team that many experts consider to be rebuilding. With 28 points in 27 games, no one expected to see the CH so high in the standings.
Martin St-Louis' team is in 21st place in the league, two points behind the 20th place Florida Panthers with two games in hand.
So what's the big surprise in all this?
Not sure Bill Zito, GM of last season's President's Trophy winning Florida Panthers, expected his team to be in the bottom half of the NHL.
Remember the trade that Kent Hughes made at the last trade deadline:
Ben Chiarot vs Ty Smilanic, a fourth-round pick in 2022 and a first-round pick in 2023 (unprotected).
If all goes well, then, the Habs will have Florida's first round pick heading into the upcoming 2023 NHL Draft lottery.
