According to informant Maxim Guérin, former Habs defenseman Ben Chiarot, who will become an free agent player this summer, would like to return to the Montreal Canadiens organization.
Obviously, this is to be taken with a grain of salt, but Chiarot's agent would have called Kent Hughes to mention his client's intentions.
According to the information I got today, it seems that Ben Chiarot's agent contacted KH to let them know that his client was interested in coming back to play in Montreal if the opportunity arose.
With the season he's had, it wouldn't be surprising if Chiarot was asking for a salary of at least $4M per year.
At this point, the Canadiens can't afford it. On the other hand, by trading some elements, maybe Kent Hughes will be able to knit something together.
Remember that Ben Chiarot was sent to Florida, a few days before the trade deadline, in return for a first round pick in 2023 (unprotected), the prospect Ty Smilanic and a fourth round pick in 2022.
Let's face it, that's quite a steal from Kent Hughes!
