Tonight news of an NHL retirement has come to light. According to a social media post former top prospect and Flyers forward Nolan Patrick is retiring from hockey. He will now pursue a career as a hockey skills coach according to the post.
Patrick was a highly touted prospect when he was selected second overall in 2017. Unfortunately, constant injuries derailed his career. Patrick last played in 2021-22 when he appeared in 22 games and had 7 points.
Patrick Becomes A Cautionary Tale
Nolan Patrick is a case study for playing a lot of hockey at a young age. Patrick played 3 full junior seasons in the WHL before he was drafted. When Patrick first had his injury issues many blamed his extensive junior career.
Now Patrick exits the NHL at 25 years old and will move into a career preparing the next generation for a hockey career. He likely can take experiences from his career to improve not only the play but the long-term health of young players.
