We hope that this time, the consequence will be enough for Wilson to learn from his mistake. His style of play always brings controversy, as he plays a tough and physical game.
No matter how long he ends up being suspended, the Capitals will need to push through without him. Even if Wilson' offensive production hasn't been overwhelming, scoring 17 goals and 15 assists in 66 games, he makes a difference every time he's on the ice. Players form other teams are scared of him. They know that if they want to hit one of Wilson's teammate, they'll probably need to answer to him.
If they want to make it to the playoffs, they must continue to play well until the end of the season, as the race in the Eastern Conference is as tight as it can be. The Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders are all desperatly fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive.
They're currently one point away from the second Wild Card spot in the East, behind the Red Wings, who played one more games than the Caps.
