What a season it was for Bruce Cassidy and the Vegas Golden Knights. One of the most successful expansion teams in sports and their new coach went all the way this season, and will now be forever etched in history as Stanley Cup Champions. While it's a time of great joy for many, Cassidy's former team and their fans have some serious reflecting to do.
Cassidy Takes Aim at Bruins
As Vegas Head Coach Bruce Cassidy addressed the media for the first time following his team's historic victory, he managed to sneak in a shot at his former team, the Boston Bruins.
«The Cup is going to the Cape! It's great to be in this club. You're a winner now forever so they can't kick you out so I love that feeling.» - Bruce Cassidy
Cassidy was pretty blunt with his comments there, but it doesn't really come as a surprise. Winning one of the hardest trophies in professional sports in your first year with a new team is no easy feat, yet Cassidy did it quite effortlessly. He's certainly given Boston something to think about over the next few weeks.
How Did We Get Here?
Boston fired Cassidy following the Bruins' early exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, ending his time with the club in a rather unceremonious way. It didn't take long for Cassidy to regain his footing in the NHL, as he was hired by Vegas very shortly after. One year later, Cassidy is a Stanley Cup Champion.
While Boston is probably regretting their decision right about now, we're sure Cassidy hasn't looked back since. His name will now be on the Stanley Cup for future generations to see.
