The Vancouver Canucks have a loaded blue line heading into the new season, and now they've made a shock move by placing both Guillaume Brisebois and Jett Woo on waivers.

After a very busy off-season in Vancouver that saw the team add the likes of Jake DeBrusk and Daniel Sprong, the team have now made some surprise moves with the regular season approaching. Despite some promising performances in the regular season, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has now announced that both Jett Woo and Guillaume Brisebois have been placed on waivers by the team.

First up is 24-year old Jett Woo, who has been a promising member of the organization since he was drafted back in the second-round of the 2018 NHL Draft. He has been called up to the team before, but not yet made his NHL debut despite fantastic size and promising production, with his 2023/24 AHL campaign seeing him tally 7 goals and 31 points. At just 24, the team are hopeful he passes through waivers and continues his development, because the team are just one or two injuries away from him likely playing significant minutes for the team.

On the other hand is Guillaume Brisebois, who is 27-years of age with some NHL experience, playing 27 games for the team dating back to 2018, but after just 8 games in Abbotsford a year ago, it's clear to see why they're okay moving on from him.

While Brisebois was drafted by the Canucks back in 2015, he has also spent time with the Montreal Canadiens organization, playing nine games for the AHL's Laval Rocket back in 2020/21, scoring just 1 goal and 2 points before eventually returning to Vancouver. Over that stretch of NHL games, Brisebois has tallied just 1 goal and 3 points, and while he has the size to compete at the NHL level, it's become clear he doesn't quite have the talent to make it.

There has been plenty of hope for both Woo and Brisebois, and while there's still a spot potentially left open for either if an injury bug hits the Canucks blue line, at this point, there may be plenty of interest on waivers. We will see how this plays out, but for now, the Canucks are in danger of losing two very solid players that have shown promise throughout their time with the organization.
