With the NHL Draft being just a few weeks away a new report has revealed the Vancouver Canucks are looking to make a potential trade just after the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Vancouver Canucks had a disappointing playoff exit this season after going all in and acquiring several pieces at the NHL Trade Deadline. Now many of those pieces are on the verge of becoming free agents and the Vancouver Canucks need to decide who to keep.

Elias Lindholm, Dakota Joshua, Nikita Zadorov, Filip Hronek, and Tyler Myers are all scheduled to be free agents this summer. In the case of Filip Hronek he will be a restricted free agent allowing the Canucks to have some control of the process.

Filip Hronek's contract status provides a problem for the Vancouver Canucks

For much of the season, Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek played on a pair alongside star Quinn Hughes. This led him to rack up points and a lot of ice-time. However, as the year went on Filip Hronek started to struggle and was moved down the lineup.

Now heading into the offseason he is a restricted free agent and his time with Quinn Hughes to begin the year has caused a problem. In arbitration, the panel that decides salaries can only look at basic stats like points, ice time, plus/minus etcetera. This gives Filip Hronek a major advantage because he was able to pad those stat categories before being moved away from Quinn Hughes.

With this being the case a new report has indicated the Vancouver Canucks might look to trade Filip Hronek to avoid this mess.

Canucks reporter believes Filip Hronek could be traded before the NHL Draft

A report from Satiar Shah has indicated that there is chatter Filip Hronek could be moved to a new team before the NHL Draft. He says that a separation is not guaranteed but at this point is more likely than not to happen between Filip Hronek and the Vancouver Canucks.

I'm not going to be as forceful as saying he's guaranteed to be traded by the draft if he doesn't sign, but I'd say there's a really good chance that a trade happens at the draft if he doesn't sign an extension, Shah said.

As of now, this is just one report about a possible move the Canucks will make. If they do not move Filip Hronek another move will be made to try and thin out the amount of players heading to free agency for nothing.

Once there is more news regarding the Vancouver Canucks plans with Filip Hronek and their other upcoming free agents we will pass it along to you.
