Insider Reveals Teams Interested in Thatcher Demko

The Vancouver Canucks have some very valuable pieces still to move. While Hughes and Pettersson are untouchable, it appears Thatcher Demko is on the market.

Demko May Be on the Move

Vancouver is in a tricky position. They don't have too many high-value assets to move, but they desperately need to bring in assets.

They equally need cap flexibility, which will be exploited by teams looking at guys like Brock Boeser or JT Miller.


One player that will avoid this cap crunch penalty is Thatcher Demko. His $5-million cap-hit is entirely affordable for a #1 goaltender, and he could fetch big assets.

It appears the Canucks will at least listen, and Kevin Weekes has now revealed three teams that are interested.

Weekes Reveals Teams

Weekes brings up the Penguins, Sabres, and Kings as possible fits for Demko, and they all make sense.

For the Penguins, sending pending UFA Tristan Jarry back to his hometown would likely be maximizing the often-injured asset, and bringing in Demko would solidify them at the position for the rest of their cores' careers.

For the Sabres, stacked with goalie prospects including Ukko-Pekka Luukonen, Erik Portillo, and Devon Levi, it would make sense to move up their window of contention. They have loads of cap space, and more than enough assets to pull off a trade.

Finally for the Kings, Jonathan Quick is likely on retirement watch, and Cal Petersen hasn't been they guy they hoped he would be. Bringing in Demko would give them the chance to go after one more cup with this core, especially considering how wide open the Western Conference is.



Vancouver needs to figure something out before the deadline, and more and more, it's looking like Demko could be that guy.
