William Nylander spoke for just a minute and a half with the media, sidestepping focusing too much on this Leafs season.

Having been the one consistent this season for Toronto, William Nylander left the end of the year on an uncertain note after taking only a few questions from the Leafs media.
Nylander answered just four questions, being asked about the Leafs struggles this season and how injuries impacted the club, before ending the presser after just 92 seconds.
The Leafs leading scorer with 79 points in 65 games on the season, Nylander sidestepped answering serious questions on Toronto's challenges, and there's a potential positive reason as to why, some would say.

Nylander focuses on honest answers as he pushes the focus to next season

Unlike Auston Matthews earlier today, Nylander kept from talking about what went wrong, focusing on the few questions media got to ask about how they plan to fix it.
Nylander's disinterest in speaking with the Toronto media isn't unknown, but after a season where Nylander was forced to make changes as Matthews was injured, Nylander isn't forcing any fake answers.
Nylander isn't going to make any empty promises or blame anyone for their losses, just saying that next season needs to be better, focusing on obvious answers.
Not answering heavily each question, it won't put Nylander's future into doubt, but may raise questions over how the front office can keep Nylander buying into what a new front office wants.

How the front office can use Nylander's firm response to clear out the soft locker room culture

There is a clear positive to find in William Nylander's short, blunt remarks, and that it could signal the Leafs new look seriousness next season.
The media may have gotten a more serious Leafs team coming into the offseason, and the players may be ready to leave this season behind, and not let it linger too long.
It's not that William Nylander doesn't care, but after a disappointing season where a playoff hunt didn't even come close, Nylander seems ready to forget it all happened.
The Leafs are likely wanting the media to move on and focus on next season, and while some may want instant accountability, Nylander may have already set his focus beyond what just transpired with Toronto.
Now, we may see a Leafs team taking such a disappointment as a wake-up call that Toronto needs to be meaner, and needs to be ready to put the worst behind them.

Should the Leafs forget this season and move on or use it as motivation for next season?
