The Toronto Maple Leafs saw the return of two forwards to the lineup after being scratched in favor of a new look for Game 5.
As the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs square off for Game 6 in Sunrise, all eyes are going to be focused on if the reigning champions can close things out and storm back after being down 2-0, or
if Toronto can make a miracle comeback. Two players who were scratched for Game 5 were
Pontus Holmberg and
Calle Jarnkrok, as the Maple Leafs favoured a new look that turned out to be an unmitigated disaster.
So it's not surprising to see Craig Berube go back to what's worked in the past, and put both men back in the lineup for a crucial Game 6.
Knies - Matthews - Marner
Holmberg - Tavares - Nylander
Lorentz - Laughton - Jarnkrok
McMann - Domi - Pacioretty
McCabe - Tanev
Rielly - Carlo
Benoit - Ekman-Larsson
Holmberg will assume duties on the second line with
John Tavares and
William Nylander, meanwhile Jarnkrok heads back with his usual line that gets the third spot for the crucial game.
Craig Berube Banking On Old Tactics To Help Win Game 6
Neither man has been stellar this postseason, and with Nick Robertson being scratched after stopping a second straight Florida shutout is a bit surprising.
Although that might not be the case, as there are some conflicting reports on whether or not the third and fourth line are going to be swapped.
Whatever is the case, Berube going back to what worked in the past is a double-edged sword.
It certainly gives him familiarity, and the majority of the time these players have been together so the chemistry is there, even if it doesn't translate on the scoresheet.
He also doesn't like to mess with his lineups too much, a stark contrast from earlier in the year, and giving the players the confidence to play even when struggling is a sign of a player's coach.
But it's
also hurting his team.
Bobby McMann has been non-existent this postseason, meanwhile Jarnkrok and Holmberg have two assists combined, the former not having scored in 20+ playoff games.
Why he didn't decide to keep one of them out in favor of Robertson is a question for another day, and another dismal showing from the forwards means that Brad Treliving has some serious work to do come the offseason.
The former is not only the captain but the team's best goal scorer even if he hasn't showed it.
Going goalless in six games is inexcusable, and he very well could define his legacy with either a poor or positive showing.
It'll be up once again to
Joseph Woll to come out and stop the bleeding, though if last game was any indication that might be easier said than done.
Woll has a 2-3-0 record with a brutal 4.02 GAA and .877 SV%, very unbecoming of a goaltender who was known for holding things down under pressure.
Game 6 will no doubt be one for the ages, and fans will be glued to their screens as the Panthers and Maple Leafs square off in Sunrise; the puck is scheduled to drop at 8PM ET.
