Toronto Maple Leafs unveil their best alternate jersey in years

Ahead of their selection of 'Remix Night' games, the Maple Leafs unveiled a retro-themed jersey that celebrates the team's 1927 team 100 years later.

This season has a real hit of nostalgia for the Toronto Maple Leafs as not only have they completely transformed the Scotiabank Arena into a celebration of the team's history, but they added a franchise icon and beloved former captain Mats Sundin to the front office as a way to spark fans' hopes once again.

It's all about bringing the team back to a time they were successful, and while a simple logo change doesn't guarantee anything, there's a serious desire to honour their past. With the introduction of 'Remix Nights' this season, we were teased about a potential jersey change to commemorate the occasion.

Well, we have our first look at the logo and while it's not fully complete as of yet - it might be one of their best looks ever:

The crest is meant to symbolize the transition period from when the Maple Leafs were born from the Toronto St. Pats, a team that still gets honoured to this very day. The logo is reminiscent of their 1927 one which had a simple green Maple Leaf with Toronto emblazoned below.

It's no coincidence that the Maple Leafs have chosen a logo with such a rich history and importance to the team considering they are going through a transition right now.

There's a brand new management team, we are moving into the Gavin McKenna era, and it feels like the last ten years are firmly over and we usher in a new Toronto.

When will the Maple Leafs debut their retro threads?

For those who were hoping this is more than a one-time affair, you're in luck as there are nine total games this season focused on nostalgia. The first is against Montreal on Nov. 7, with three more in November against Los Angeles, Edmonton, and Philadelphia.

December finds them with two Remix Night games against Tampa Bay and Anaheim, then one in January against St. Louis; with two more in February against Columbus and Carolina.

It's unknown as to what the other retro jerseys are going to look like in full, though Icethetics on YouTube posted a video highlighting all of the designs this upcoming season.

While we may need to wait a little bit to see how these jerseys will look in game action, it's just another piece of the Maple Leafs' season that adds to the overall excitement.
