The Toronto Maple Leafs are reported to be showing interest in a very high profile KHL player whose contract is expiring at the end the season. The Leafs have a chance at acquiring a potential top 6 forward at a very low price.

Leafs interested in Maxim Tsyplakov

The Leafs among other teams have shown interest in KHL forward Maxim Tsyplakov. The 27 year old forward has never played in North America but that can all change next season with many NHL teams interested in giving him a shot. The Russian forward has 30G and 15A making 45P this season, high profile stats in a very competitive league.

This isn't the first case of an undated player finding himself in the NHL and adapting nicely. For example, last season Andrei Kuzmenko came to the Vancouver Canucks in the 2022-23 after many successful seasons in the KHL. In his first year with Vancouver, Andrei put up 71 points in 82 games, impressive numbers for a freshman. Andrei currently plays for the Calgary Flames after being apart of the Elias Lindholm deal that happend right before the All Star break.

The Leafs have a big chance at buying low at a player in a risk free deal, something Brad Treliving should definitely get his hands on.

More details to come.
