The Montreal Canadiens have claimed Sammy Blais off forwards from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Leafs forward Sammy Blais was
claimed off waivers by the Canadiens, the second time Blais has been claimed off waivers this season.
Blais was claimed by Toronto at the start of the regular season from Montreal, playing in eight games for the Leafs as a rotational depth piece, in his time with the Leafs netting a goal and three points before today returning to Montreal.
Blais was acquired by Toronto alongside goaltender Cayden Primeau as emergency adds
with the loss of Scott Laughton at forward due to injury, and goaltender Joseph Woll away for personal reasons.
The 29-year-old winger has played eight season in the NHL, including in 2019 under current Leafs head coach Craig Berube on the Stanley Cup winning St. Louis Blues.
Blais was waived after Auston Matthews and Nicolas Roy were removed from injured reserve, with forward Jacob Quillan assigned to the AHL Toronto Marlies as a corresponding move.
As he was claimed by the team he originally played for the first time, Blais can be sent down to the American Hockey League with the Canadiens AHL affiliate in Laval.
Blais was signed to a one-year, $775K contract by the Canadiens on the first day of NHL free agency, July 1st.
