Tim Stutzle Criticizes Maple Leafs Special Teams in Recent Interview
Senators forward and known embellishment artist Tim Stutzle has called out the Maple Leafs' special teams despite he and his team trailing 0-3 in their series.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have the chance to move on to the 2nd round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for just the
2nd time since 2004; they lead their Round 1 series against the divisional foe Ottawa Senators 3-0 heading into tonight's Game 4.
Ironically, before their 2023 Round 1 series win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto's most recent postseason round victory was against the Senators in 2004; if they win Game 4, it will mark their 1st sweep in a series since 2001, also against the Senators.
Stutzle's Subtle Dig At Toronto's Incredible Special Teams Performance
Prior to the game, Ottawa forward and embellishment expert Tim Stutzle
tried to throw a subtle dig at the Maple Leafs by saying he wasn't impressed with their special teams play.
Stutzle's words are especially odd considering that the Maple Leafs scored 3 power play goals in their 6-2 Game 1 win over the Senators at Scotiabank Arena earlier in the week. They also scored on their lone power play chance in Game 2, a 3-2 OT win.
Toronto went 1 for 2 on the power play in Game 3, another 3-2 OT win that gave them the 3-0 series lead.
Meanwhile, the Senators' power play units have managed only a pair of PPGs through the opening 3 games of the series.
For his part during the whole series, Stutzle hasn't done much, registering one assist through three games. He was expected to be a huge reason in Ottawa sticking around but so far has been a non factor.
Will the Maple Leafs not only complete the sweep of the Senators tonight but also force Stutzle to continue to have to eat his words?
Expect the thousands of fans who will be packed at the watch party in Maple Leafs Square to celebrate long into the night if so.
