Antony Stolarz Set to Make History with a Maple Leafs Game 4 Victory
Anthony Stolarz can solidify himself as one of the best goaltenders in Leafs history and firmly etch his name in the record books with a sweep against Ottawa.
With the Maple Leafs heading into the Canadian Tire Centre with a sweep on their minds, it's going to be a hard-fought battle that will test not only the team in terms of their ability to close things out, but if they can handle a team who will
sink to some unsavory tactics over and over; a great test for a potential Florida matchup.
They're backed by their brick wall of a goaltender in Anthony Stolarz, and for someone who hadn't started a playoff game prior to this series, he's been spectacular.
Recording a 3-0-0 record wth a 1.95 GAA and .926 SV%, he's been exactly what Toronto needed to ensure they're successful in the postseason, and with a sweep against the Senators tonight, can make a bit of history.
With a victory that not only secures Toronto's spot in the second round, the goaltender can also set the record for longest winning streak in franchise history, surpassing
Jack Campbell's 11 games in 2020-21.
Anthony Stolarz's Debut Season Better Than Anyone Could Have Expected
When he signed in the summertime, no one thought that
Stolarz would do what he did. Expected to help give
Joseph Woll a stable and reliable veteran, instead he took the reins and ran with them.
Even though he missed a month with a knee injury, his debut season was something to remember.
Posting a 21-8-3 record with a 2.14 GAA and .926 SV% along with four shutouts, there's absolutely no way anyone could have seen these types of numbers, but boy are they happy though.
Part of a tandem with Woll that has been literally the team's best duo in team history, Stolarz has not only proven that he can handle a starter role both in the regular season and the playoffs, but a wonder why other teams never gave him an honest look before this year.
If this playoff series is any indication of the future when it comes to Stolarz being able to shut teams down when it matters most, the Maple Leafs are going to be in good hands. He's been killing it, and his production is a huge reason Toronto even got here in the first place.
Why not take out two birds with one stone on Saturday, by setting a franchise record, and sending their provincial rivals packing.
