Maple Leafs Starting Goaltender Revealed for Game 4 of the Battle of Ontario
With Toronto headed into enemy territory once again with a chance to sweep the Ottawa Senators in the first Battle of Ontario in 20 years,
things are going to be as intense as ever, with a hungry and motivated Sens team trying to stave off a swift exit.
Both
Auston Matthews and
Mitch Marner have given pep talks ahead of Game 4, and with a potential series against Florida in the future, a quick series win would boost their confidence and potentially give them an advantage should the Panthers not sweep the Lightning themselves.
We have our answer, and it's really not surprising all things considered.
Anthony Stolarz Gets The Call; Toronto Needs Him At His Best
With Anthony Stolarz in the road net, it all but indicates that he's getting the start unless head coach Craig Berube gets some cold feet.
Stolarz has been stellar this postseason, his first as a starter. He has a 3-0-0 record with a 1.95 GAA and .926 SV% while making sure that any high-danger chances from the Senators are snuffed out in an instant.
While Woll does deserve a chance to play at some point, the playoffs are a much different beast than the regular season, and if you're riding a goaltender's hot hand, you best believe you do so until the wheels fall off. Stolarz has been too good, and you need him to have as much momentum as possible going into Round 2.
The Maple Leafs have a chance to do something they haven't done since 2001, which is sweep a playoff series which was coincidentally, against the Senators. They're looking for Stolarz to lead them into the 2nd round with a huge wave of momentum, and Saturday's game will be a big test.
Not only for the Maple Leafs when it comes to closing it down, but for Joseph Woll in terms of patience while he waits until he's needed; if at all.
