The future of Craig Berube's role as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs is beginning to look less certain, according to a new report.

Craig Berube has not been on the hot seat for Toronto despite a 9-10-3 start that sees the Leafs in last place.
Leafs GM Brad Treliving insisted in a press conference last Tuesday that he stood by Berube and his ability to lead Toronto as the head coach, even with the team's struggles.
Openly, Toronto is sticking by Craig Berube and extending him their trust, but new reporting indicates the Leafs understand that they may have to potentially deviate from that if their loses continue to pile up.

What actually changed in the conversation around Berube this week

A new report from Elliotte Friedman on the 'Kyper & Bourne Podcast' indicated that while there isn't any plans to fire Craig Berube, that could change if the Leafs record doesn't improve eventually.
Friedman doesn't state how long the Leafs can go before it becomes a problem for Berube, although he still believes Berube's job isn't at risk right now.
The Leafs continuing to have challenges have not ceded, with injuries worsening the team, and the rest of the healthy depth options struggling to pull their weight.
Without key pieces such as Auston Matthews, Anthony Stolarz, Chris Tanev, & Matthew Knies, Craig Berube is tasked with utilizing his healthy pieces to make up for heavy losses.
With a few days past from the Leafs last game, Toronto is now having to focus on the team getting back to being a contending group, even while overcoming their continuous injury woes.

Why the Leafs' situation is now forcing outside voices to pay attention

The Toronto Maple Leafs surprise fall to last place has come as a shock, and is now becoming a hot topic among the media over how the Leafs avoid potentially missing the playoffs.
From now until the Christmas break could be pivotal to the Toronto Maple Leafs future and what the Leafs decide to do next by that point.
Once Toronto nears the midway point of the season, they'll have to see where they are in the standings and determine if they feel comfortable with where they're at, and more importantly where they're at with Craig Berube.
With a highly talented roster that the Leafs are missing some key pieces, Toronto has to be able to prove they can win with whatever pieces they have on the ice.
As Elliotte Friedman noted, now isn't the time where Craig Berube has to worry about his job in Toronto, but now is the time he has to turn the ship around and steer his team to success.
