The Toronto Maple Leafs have won the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery and without a doubt that means Gavin McKenna is coming to the blue and white this summer.

In a stunning turn of events the Toronto Maple Leafs have won the NHL Draft Lottery. After the first three numbers drawn were 7, 2, and 11; it was the #12 that Toronto needed in order to get the pick. After a short break, the countdown began and stunningly....they pulled it off.
The Maple Leafs now have the chance to draft Gavin McKenna first overall, and it would be the first time the Maple Leafs selected first overall since they drafted Auston Matthews in 2016.
Mats Sundin was smiling ear to ear as the announcement was made.
The reaction on social media was exactly as you'd expect, as fans went absolutely insane for the results:
It's genuinely a stunning turnaround that sets the Maple Leafs future on a course for absolute success. The possibility Auston Matthews and Gavin McKenna together is ridiculous and is sure to give the captain second thoughts about leaving.
McKenna, 18, had a stellar season with the Penn State Nittany Lions with 51 points in 35 games (15 goals, 36 assists) and is coming off some of the best numbers we've seen for a young player in a long time.
In 117 games with Medicine Hat, McKenna had 226 points (75 goals, 151 assists) which averages out to nearly 2 points per game; he's a generational talent.
The funny part is that the Maple Leafs selected Auston Matthews 10 years ago with the first overall pick, in Buffalo; and now 10 years later they have the same chance to draft McKenna and bring in another franchise-altering player.
Suffice to say, many are probably going to think that John Chayka had something to do with this, but with 1,001 possible combinations — it landed on Toronto's lucky four.
