The Toronto Maple Leafs face another massive loss on defense, and another mysterious potential injury.

After losing Oliver Ekman-Larsson last night in the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto may have been hit with another unexpected injury that no one noticed.
Ekman-Larsson left in the first period against Detroit after a battle alongside Red Wings forward and fellow Swedish 2026 named Olympian Lucas Raymond, with Ekman-Larsson not returning. But one player who sticked around may have picked up an issue as well.
According to a report from insider Chris Johnston, Ekman-Larsson may miss some time after leaving in the first period against Detroit with what was called a lower-body injury.
But it's another injury that is the concern for the Leafs. According to Johnston, the Leafs also have a second injury issue, this one facing Brandon Carlo.
There is concern from the Leafs that Carlo may have picked up an injury as well, something that is being looked at and could be something to watch.
Toronto is already without Chris Tanev and Dakota Mermis due to injury, and could have two additional major injuries on their blueline to now process with.

Toronto Maple Leafs suffer surprise injury to Carlo, unknown timeline for OEL

While the injury news to Oliver Ekman-Larsson was expected, Brandon Carlo's injury came out of nowhere, and creates uncertain confusion for the Leafs.
It's not known what caused the injury to Carlo, and how long he may be out for, but it's another injury question for Toronto already needing to navigate their blueline with Ekman-Larsson out.
Carlo's injury was described as him "tweaking something", which could mean that his injury is only minor, but it will take time to know the extent of his injury in what has been a strong stretch, and as for information, the Leafs are often quiet on this front.
But if both defensemen are out for an extended period of time, it creates a major uncertainty for the Leafs roster that is already hurting on defense, and with 1-2 additional losses.
Toronto will likely be able to provide more information ahead of tomorrow's game against the Vegas Golden Knights, but if not, it could be a length absence for one or both of their now injured defenders.
